Story of Yugopunk
In the early 1980s, the socialist dream of brotherhood and unity still pulsed through the veins of Yugoslavia. Cities bloomed in the shadow of hulking industrial complexes, their skies streaked with smoke from factories that belched progress into the air. On the streets, young people whistled partisan anthems between laughter, their pockets jingling with freshly minted coins. Store shelves groaned with imported luxuries, propaganda posters promised a gleaming future, and the people believed.
But greed and corruption led to a catastrophic incident in 1987. A massive chemical explosion at the Hemis Chemical Factory spewed poison into the sky, soil, and groundwater. Within months, Yugoslavia’s utopia crumbled. A lot of People starved to death, looted what little remained, and descended into madness. The military, instead of restoring order, retreated into bunkers, abandoning the people to their fate. The powerful elites took everything they could and vanished, leaving the country in chaos. Soon, there were little people left—only survivors clinging to the ruins of what once was.
Twenty years later, you come to save the country and its people.
You’re a not-so-well-trained mercenary, sent by external forces with a single mission: to fix the corruption and bring order to this broken land. Your task is to uncover the mystery of what went wrong—and who is to blame. You start stranded without any gear, survive and gather and uncover more.
Yugopunk is deeply inspired by the culture, history, and aesthetic of Yugoslavia in the 1980s.
Gameplay Features
Flexible Survival – Solo or Together
Whether you're a lone wolf navigating the aftermath on your own, or part of a tightly bonded group of up to 10 players, the choice is yours. Face the dangers of a post-catastrophe world in a gripping Player vs. Environment (PvE) experience where every decision can mean life or death. Build, scavenge, fight, and survive—alone or side by side with others.
Evolving Player Roles
In multiplayer, teamwork becomes a powerful weapon. As your group grows and adapts, players can naturally take on roles that fit their style. One survivor might master weapon crafting and combat, becoming the squad’s frontline force. Another may lean into a supportive role, managing supplies, cooking, and ensuring the group stays fed and healthy. Others could focus on scavenging, gathering materials and resources critical to survival.
Immersive Stylized World
Explore a procedurally generated Yugoslavia-inspired world with biomes mimicking many regions of old Yugoslavia. Features include dynamic local weather, a day & night cycle, and editable terrain.
Survival Aspects
Gather wild plants, hunt, turn ingredients into meals, and cultivate your own garden.
Dungeons & Bosses
Enter abandoned buildings, factories, and secret dungeons to find valuable resources, bosses, and clues about the country’s collapse.
Crafting & Base Building
Start with nothing and scavenge scraps to craft tools, weapons, and gear to increase your chances of survival. Build your own base and set up useful devices—but survival isn’t just about walls and weapons. Clean water is crucial and must be collected and filtered. You'll have access to a variety of devices to help automate tasks or provide support, many of which rely on electricity, making power management a key part of your long-term strategy.
Vehicles
Drive iconic vehicles from Yugoslavia, including cars, mopeds, and bicycles. Customize them with armor and additional storage. Use vehicles to travel faster and transport your friends.
Current Progress & Alpha
For the past three years, we’ve been hard at work on Yugopunk, laying the foundation with systems like our custom terrain engine. Today, the core mechanics are in place, the graphics and asset pipeline are running smoothly, and the game is fully playable—though we’re still adding more content to bring the world to life.
Right now, you can already drive iconic vehicles, loot abandoned buildings, build and customize your base and forage for resources. Every asset you see has been crafted from scratch by our team.
Our next big milestone is releasing a playable alpha, featuring the first boss encounter and all core systems fully operational.
Leading up to that, we’ll be sharing regular blog posts, development updates, and new information about the game—while continuing to improve and refine every aspect of development.
